We know that as the North Carolina weather first tickles us with warm temperatures in March everyone gets excited for the beauty of spring soon approaching. Homeowners have dreams of lush backyards with colorful blooms and homegrown vegetables on a background of green foliage. They check the date of the first day of Spring, March 20th this year, only a few weeks away, and excitement grows.
Our family is excited too, approaching the time of year that suits us best, when we can be outside working with plants we select and grow. While we have seedlings started in our greenhouse for all the spring plants you look forward to, and our strawberry fields are beginning to fill out as the plants grow, the chance of frost in our area is high until April 6th. To reduce the chance of a frost killing off your start to a beautiful spring, it is best to wait to plant outdoors until after the last spring frost date.
